How to connect the Pen and access your files

The files on the pen are stored as .txt or .wav files in the onboard 16 MB of memory. An micro SD card can also be plugged into the side of the scanner.

  • When ready to download the notes connect the pen to the USB port of the computer
  • Open File Explorer and navigate to the IRISpen Reader 8 drive.
  • You will find your files in these locations.
    ⚬ Scan to Text & Save - In Scan to Text & Save Folder - in .txt format
     Live Recording - In Record folder - in .wav format
     Photo OCR- In Picture Folder - in .jpg and .txt format.

On Macintosh scanning to the micro SD card is required and an SD card adapter for your Mac.

How to use the OCR language option

See the user guide on the Product Support Page linked above for the language listings. 

  • Power on the pen and tap the Settings icon.
  • Scroll to Languages and select among the 10 languages that will be displayed on the device.
    ⚬ Scan to Text & Save - Automatically detects 48 languages.
    ⚬ Photo OCR - Supports 15 languages.
    ⚬ Dys Text to Speech - Supports 5 Languages.

How to use the Photo OCR option

  • Swipe left on the home screen to find the Photo OCR app.
  • At the top of the screen, select the photo language.
  • To take a photo of a text:
  • Hold the pen in landscape mode only.
  • Touch the screen once to use auto focus.
  • Select the white circle to take the picture
  • The image is shown. The text is surrounded by a resizable white frame.
  • Select the check icon to confirm or the back arrow to cancel.
  • If you confirm, the recognition screen opens. It shows you the OCR results.
  • The image file and the text are saved automatically on the device.
