IRIScan Book 7 - All of the scanner buttons are locked

The IRIScan Book 7 is both a scanner and a removable USB drive. The micro SD card plugged into the side of the scanner stores the scans. 

When plugged into the computer with the USB cable the scanner automatically goes into USB mode. At that point none of the buttons on the scanner are operable.
