Overview
ReadIRIS Advanced PDF for HP is a document processing and OCR (Optical Character Recognition) solution distributed by HP. The HP-branded version corresponds to Readiris PDF 23 and is offered as a 10-day free trial, allowing users to evaluate whether the software fits their workflow before purchasing a license.

First Launch
After installation, launching Readiris PDF presents the following options:
- Start a free trial
- Enter an Activation Code
To purchase a license, select “I want to buy a license”, which redirects you to the IRIS website where discounted pricing for HP users may be available.
Scanner Setup Requirements
TWAIN Driver Requirement
Readiris PDF requires a TWAIN scanner driver to function correctly.
- The TWAIN driver is installed only with the full HP printer/scanner software package.
- Installing the HP Smart app alone may not install the TWAIN driver.
- Without the TWAIN driver, Readiris cannot detect or use the scanner.
Installing Full HP Software
- Visit the HP Support website:
https://support.hp.com/drivers - Search for your specific scanner or multifunction printer model.
- Download and install the Full Feature Software and Drivers package.
- Restart the system if prompted.
How to Use Readiris PDF 23
Scanning Documents
- Open Readiris PDF.
- Click the drop-down arrow next to “From Scanner”.
- Select the applicable HP scanner.
Append vs. New Scan Mode
Locate the Append | New (Slide control) option:

Append
- Each scan is added to the current set.
- Ideal for creating multi-page PDF documents.

New
- Each scan opens in a new tab.
- Each document is processed separately.
Processing and Saving Files
- Click Scan to import page(s).
- In the Home tab, use Quick Convert to select the desired output format.
- The default save location is:
Documents > Readiris PDF
Advanced Conversion Options
To access additional settings:
- Go to the Convert tab.
- Select the desired output format (PDF, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Configure advanced options in the right-hand panel.
